If you or a loved one has a disability, there are services that can provide the support necessary. These may include accommodations, counseling and community events.

People living with disabilities face many obstacles that can limit their abilities to lead a normal life. These barriers may be physical, mental, or social in nature.

Accommodations

Accommodations are a way of giving qualified students with disabilities the same access to educational experiences as their non-disabled peers. This may include allowing them to work from home, using paratransit or taxicabs instead of personal cars, and eliminating obstacles that hinder participation in

academic activities.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), colleges must make reasonable accommodations for students who meet the definition of disability. This definition includes any current physical or mental impairment that significantly restricts one or more major life

activities.

Once you’ve collected all necessary documentation and made an appointment with your college’s disability services representative, you can begin the application process. After eligibility has been confirmed, the office will issue you an accommodation letter which should be presented to your professors.
